Poverty
Alleviation:
“Poor”
is one of
the commonest terms used to describe the majority of the African
economies Indeed poverty has wrecked havoc among many families on this
continent. The poor flow of income within and among families has put
restrictions upon the ability of certain individuals to achieve their
set objectives and goals
Although poverty is
a widespread phenomenon in Uganda, Action For Humanity believes it can
be fought. The fight to defeat poverty is not a battle of the weak in
mind and in strength. It is not a one man’s battle and it cannot be
won by selfish individuals amassing wealth at the expense of everyone
else within their midst. The struggle against poverty is a struggle
for the strong in mind and spirit. It is a struggle for everyone
whether rich or poor and the rich must be willing to redistribute some
of their wealth among the poor.
Action For Humanity
does not have the capacity to acquire the money necessary to
distribute to the poor and improve their situation. Our task will be
to solicit for funds and use them to encourage the poor find
sustainable means of generating their own income. We know that can be
rushed through. It is an activity that requires thorough planning,
hard work and the attainment of gradual results over a relatively long
period of time. That is what we are going to focus our efforts
towards.
GOALS
1.To devise means of assisting the rural
poor in an effort towards enabling them break through the poverty
trap.
2.Developing and conducting programs to impart knowledge of fighting
poverty among the rural poor at all levels.
3.Providing training for the rural civic leaders and other categories
of people in managing their communities for the purpose of eradicating
poverty.
4.Providing credit to organized groups of people especially the Youth,
women and the disabled.
5.Soliciting for funds among other funding agencies and donors in
order to assist the rural poor.
Although the rural
areas of Uganda are responsible for the generation of over 85% of our
domestic and cultural produce, they are still by far the poorest. Many
of these people live on less than a dollar per day and many still fall
far below the poverty line of US$ 280 per capita income of the Ugandan
population. This means these people are only struggling to Survive.
The high prevalence of poverty among most Ugandans is responsible for
such wide spread occurrences such as poor housing, poor
infrastructure, high mortality rates, poor nutrition, etc.
In order to address
the above scenario, AFH will solicit and distribute
fertilizers, modern agricultural implements as well as
finding suitable domestic and International markets for the
agricultural produce. Although our main aim will be the improvement of
agriculture and making the agricultural sector a priority, we shall
also try to find means of diversifying the rural economy such that we
limit over reliance on weather as the main stimulant behind productive
crop agriculture.
